Exhibition Industry Development Act

  • The exhibition industry is a high-value-added service industry that has impact on economic growth, income generation, and employment creation. It is also highly effective at promoting exports and helps stimulate the local economy through related industries, such as tourism and hotels.
  • Until recently, under “Laws on Creating a Base for Trade Transactions,” the exhibition industry was regarded only as a component of the trade infrastructure.
  • This changed with the enactment of the “Exhibition Industry Development Act” in 2008. It established legal grounds to specifically promote the exhibition industry as an independent sector, not merely as a means to support trade. Rapid growth of the Korean exhibition industry is expected as a result.
  • According to Article 3 of the Exhibition Industry Development Act, the Exhibition Industry Master Development Plan was finalized after deliberations by the Exhibition Industry Development Deliberation Committee, which was established according to Article 5 of the Exhibition Industry Development Act, on December 23, 2008.
