The 2021 Seoul International Food Industry
Exhibition introduced vegetable meat alternatives.
Marking its 16th anniversary this year, the
Seoul International Food Industry Exhibition (COX Food Week 2021) was held at
COEX in Gangnam-gu, Seoul from November 24th to 27th under the theme of
"Future Food: Embracing the Environment."
The Seoul International Food Industry
Exhibition, the largest food fair in Korea, drew attention by displaying a
number of innovative products in the food tech sector, including vegetable meat
alternatives and food upcycling recycling food by-products.
In particular, visitors' attention was
focused on plant meat alternatives that put forward carbon emissions reduction
and eco-friendly food.
Visitors who wanted to taste and purchase
products gathered at each meat booth to form a long line. Some companies
grilled and provided vegetable patties made of soybean protein as their main
ingredient.
'Wemeet' fried chicken-textured raw meat made
of 100% vegetable ingredients such as domestic pine mushrooms like fried
chicken and provided tacos and cup rice using them, which received great
response from visitors.
Ahn Hyun-seok, CEO of Wemeet, said,
"Choosing vegetarian food for health or environmental protection does not
mean giving up the pleasure of eating, and we used alternative meat to show
that we can also experience gastronomy."
An official from the COEX Food Week
Secretariat said, "632 companies participated in this year's Food Week,
and 35,000 visitors gathered. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, we have tried to
form an exhibition hall with a theme suitable for the current situation."
